By Melinda Petrow
Halloween

Here's your list of great one-liners from horror movies, as chosen by Fandango filmgoers in an online survey in the month of September. To quote a forgotten horror movie ad, these are "Words To Die By..."

Jack Nicholson in The Shining

1. "Heeeeere's Johnny!" - The Shining (1980)

We'll never forget that moment when Jack Nicholson forces his demented face through a broken bathroom doorframe and screams this crazed quip at his horrified wife and son. This one-liner, which pays homage to The Tonight Show's famous Johnny Carson intro, was apparently ad-libbed on the set by Nicholson.

2. "I see dead people." - The Sixth Sense (1999)

With these four simple words, Cole (Haley Joel Osment) reveals his long-kept secret to his psychologist, Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) in M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense, soon-to-become one of the most popular scary-gone-funny(-gone-annoying) catchphrases of all time.

Heather O'Rourke

3. "They're heee-re." - Poltergeist (1982)

In perhaps one of the most well-known scenes of Poltergeist, Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke) utters these legendary words (which would soon become the tagline and most famous quote from the film), referring to the "TV people" that eventually abduct her into her bedroom closet.

4. "I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti" - The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

While addressing Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) through the bars of his cell, Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) refers to the census taker who "tried to test" him.

5. "It's alive! It's alive!" - Frankenstein (1931) and Young Frankenstein (1974)

In the 1931 classic based upon Mary Shelley's masterpiece, Dr. Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) cries out this famous line when his lab creation stirs to life. Gene Wilder, as the good doctor's grandson in Mel Brooks' classic comic remake, also utters the famous line.

6. "You're gonna need a bigger boat." - Jaws (1975)

A pretty funny line during a pretty scary moment, delivered by Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) to Quint (Robert Shaw), immediately after coming face to face with the great white shark.

7. "Was that the boogeyman?" "Yes, I believe it was." – Halloween  (1978)

Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) asks Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance) after he rescues her from "The Shape", aka Michael Myers, by shooting him six times. Dr. Loomis looks out the window only to discover that the killer is nowhere to be found (cue gasp).

8. "Oh yes, there will be blood!" – Saw II (2005)

Indeed...and lots of it. This line, delivered by Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), gave the audience a warning, and delivered in a way that made viewers want to upchuck their popcorn.

9. "A boy's best friend is his mother." - Psycho (1960)

The extent of Norman Bates' (Anthony Perkins) unusual relationship with his controlling mother is reflected in this dialogue with Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) in Alfred Hitchcock's film, which the director called a "black comedy."

10. "They're all going to laugh at you!" - Carrie (1976)
